FUR RONDY a resucitated Alaskan winter festival by Jean Snow VanOrden

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

Fur Rondy is in full swing in Anchorage. Unfortunately an encouraging month of below zero temperatures followed by gobs of snow gave way to warming trends and slush soup around the Anchorage bowl the week before the snow loving festival began. This puts a major crimp in the traditional Fur Rondy attractions. [...]

HOW DO WE ANCHOR OUR SOULS IN CHRIST? How do we make room for him in our hearts? by Jean Snow Van Orden

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

We make room in our hearts by:
1. Studying the scriptures: The scriptures teach and testify of Christ. The scriptures teach us how to hear the Spirit for they are the language of the Spirit. The scriptures require that we THINK deeply instead of riding along on the shallow platitudes of passing cultural perspectives.

ANCHORING OUR SOULS IN CHRIST: first we have to make room for the anchor by Jean Snow VanOrden

Monday, February 18th, 2008

THE ANCHOR – A few years ago our entire family, grandkids and all, went to Lake Powell. We rented a houseboat which we anchored each night to make sure we stayed in a safe harbor no matter what storms or waves might come up in the night.

I am a victim of gerrymandering. My voting district is [...]

NO REGRETS about “Miss Austen Regrets” by Jean Snow Van Orden

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

Monday night I settled down to enjoy the PBS production of “Miss Austen Regrets” which I recorded on our DVR in the early a.m. Previous weeks have seen a collection of new productions based on Jane Austin’s marvelous novels. While I enjoyed these new versions, I felt that earlier versions were better. The newer [...]

Disability: I have a handicap by Jean Snow VanOrden

Friday, February 1st, 2008

No one ever told me at the outset that radiation therapy would shrink my tongue. That was probably a good thing. I had plenty of other things to deal with that were more pressing at the time.
Now that I’m done with the cancer treatment and feeling much improved the shortcomings of my tongue [...]
